Patagonia Lake State Park, AZ

Fishermen in bass boat
Dedicated fishermen – it was 36 degrees with a light mist at Patagonia Lak State Park in Arizona when this image was taken. Nikon D850 with Nikkor 24-70 f/2.8 lens.

Patagonia Lake State Park is located south of Tucson, Arizona about fifteen miles north of the U.S. – Mexico border. The park is clean and well managed. The campsite was recently cleaned. There is WiFi signal but no connectivity to the Internet. Campfires are allowed in established fire rings. For RVers, water and electricity are available.

Snow covered landscape with lake and reeds
In the late and final hours of the year and into mid-day of the new year a rare snowstorm coated southern Arizona with three to five inches of snow. Nikon D850 with Nikkor 24-70 f/2.8 lens.

One day after the photo of the fishermen was taken Mother Nature blessed the State Park with three to five inches of snow.

Small red berries from the Netleaf Hackberry tree covered in snow
The weight of the snow had pulled the branches of the Netleaf Hackberry (Celtis reticulata) down to almost eye level. The red berries contrasted with the snow and the cloudy skies in the background to make an eye catching image. Nikon D850 with Nikkor 24-70 f/2.8 lens. Image manipulation in Adobe Photoshop.

This photograph was selected for my 2019 Christmas cards. Many positive responses were received. One appreciative recipient wrote back, “It isn’t Christmas without one of your cards.”
